City Councilman Ron Nirenberg released a statement Friday afternoon, addressing controversial comments made by Councilwoman Elisa Chan regarding a proposed nondiscrimination ordinance being considered by the City Council. The San Antonio Express-News reported Thursday that Chan was secretly recorded making homophobic remarks during a May staff meeting, in which she called homosexuality �disgusting� and unnatural, and discusses a strategy to defeat the ordinance. In Friday's prepared statement, reports that: Effective immediately, I have placed Jeff Bazan on an indefinite administrative leave. �In a larger sense, the ordinance itself forces us to look within ourselves, and consider at what price we are willing to reaffirm the founding principle of our democracy: that in the eyes of the law, all people are created equal,� he writes.
