The federal government booked $41.3 billion in profits in the 2013 fiscal year from student loans, new figures from the federal Department of Treasury show. That's enough money to give federal Pell Grants of $5,645 to more than 7.3 million people or to pay for a year of tuition at the University of Michigan for 2,955,426 Michigan residents.
